Lodging Details

Gargonza is one of the most authentic experiences of traditional Tuscany available today.  It is not generic hotel experience, nor is it a luxury one.  The village is charming and comfortable—more like an inn, with 4-star amenities and accommodations. It has been owned and managed by the same family for 250 years.  There is a small but hard-working staff and a wonderful restaurant.  The reception office closes between 8 pm and 8 am, so please manage your expectations about room service, towel changes, or TV….It’s not that kind of place!

The cottages are the actual dwellings of families who lived and worked on the estate over the centuries.  Each is unique, with a different floor plan and different stair access. Internet service is spotty in some cottages, but readily available in common areas.  And like every real hill town, Gargonza is situated on a steep hill.  There’s a 10 minute walk up and down a steep cobblestone pedestrian lane to enter the village, with the pool and restaurant and parking area at its base. (We can assist on an informal basis with rides up and down to meals.)

Typical cottages have bedrooms with en-suite baths, sitting rooms, and kitchenettes. The images below show both a typical Classic and Superior cottage. Lighting is lower than in American hotel rooms, so if you are an avid nighttime reader, bring a clip on reading light. Most bathrooms have tub/showers. If you need a walk-in shower, please let us know on the questionnaire we’ll send you.

We will do our best to accommodate housing and bed requests, walking/stair considerations, and food allergies.  We’ll also try to accommodate dietary preferences on a limited basis. We’ll send a form for you to outline your needs and requests, then we’ll assign housing in February based on the information you give us.
